See your task due dates in your calendar
Add your Inferno due dates to Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, or Outlook, so your deadlines sit next to the rest of your week. You get a private link, and your calendar app checks it every few hours. It is read-only: changing a task in your calendar does nothing in Inferno. Setup takes about two minutes.
What you need
- An Inferno account with some tasks that have due dates.
- Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook, or another app that can subscribe to a calendar link (an iCal or .ics feed).
Set it up
- Open Settings, then Calendar feed. Log in to Inferno and open Settings from the sidebar.
- Choose which tasks. Pick "All my boards", or one board. Then click "Create calendar link".
- Copy the link. Inferno shows it once. Copy it before you leave the screen. If you lose it, revoke it and make a new one.
- Subscribe in your calendar app. Use the steps for your app below.
Add it to your calendar app
Google Calendar
- Open Google Calendar on a computer.
- Next to "Other calendars", click +, then choose "From URL".
- Paste your link and click "Add calendar".
Google refreshes subscribed calendars on its own schedule, often every 12 to 24 hours, so a new or changed task can take a while to show.
Apple Calendar
- In Calendar, choose File, then New Calendar Subscription. On an iPhone, open Settings, Calendar, Accounts, Add Account, Other, Add Subscribed Calendar.
- Paste your link.
- Choose how often to refresh, for example every hour.
Outlook
- In Outlook on the web, choose Add calendar, then "Subscribe from web".
- Paste your link, give the calendar a name, and import it.
Outlook can also take several hours to show changes.
What shows up
- Open tasks with a full due date. A due date means a year, month, and day, which is what the date picker in Inferno saves. A task whose date is only "Jun 19" is skipped, because its year would be a guess.
- Not finished tasks. Completed tasks and tasks in a Done column are left out, and so are deleted ones.
- A window of dates. From 30 days ago to 2 years ahead, up to 1,000 tasks.
- All-day events. Each task is an all-day event on its due date, named with its task code, like "[INF-12] Dash ability". The description lists the board, project, column, and priority.
- Never task descriptions, assignees, comments, or the names of other people.
- Always up to date with your access. If you are removed from a board, its tasks drop out of your feed the next time your calendar checks.
Keeping it safe
- The link is a secret. Anyone who has it can see the titles of your tasks with due dates. Do not post it or share it.
- Your calendar provider sees the tasks. Google, Apple, or Microsoft will hold the task titles and dates in your calendar, under their own privacy policy.
- Revoke it any time. One click in Settings stops the link working right away. Make a new link if you think it leaked.
- You can have up to 5 links. For example, one for your phone and one for a work calendar.
If something does not work
- The calendar is empty. Check that your tasks have a full due date and are not finished, and that the dates fall in the window above.
- A task does not appear or change. Calendar apps check on their own schedule. Google in particular can take up to a day.
- The app says the link is invalid. It was revoked, or it was copied with a typo. Make a new one.
- It stopped updating. A link that is used too often is paused for an hour. Calendar apps normally check every few hours, so this is rare.
