Share a public roadmap with your players
Show players what you are working on and let them tell you what they want next. You choose which tasks appear. Players can vote on them and send ideas, and every idea arrives on your board as a task. Setup takes about five minutes.
What you need
- An Inferno account and a board you own or can edit.
- A few tasks you are happy for players to see.
Set it up
- Open Settings, then Public roadmap. Log in to Inferno and open Settings from the sidebar. Only owners and editors of a board see this.
- Choose the columns to show. Tick the columns players should see, for example In Progress, To Do, and Done. They appear in the same order as on your board. Backlog and anything else you leave unticked stays private.
-
Pick a label (recommended).
Under "Only show tasks with this label", type a label such as
public. Then only tasks that carry that label appear, so you decide task by task. If you leave this empty, every task in the ticked columns is public, and Inferno warns you. - Add a title and a short introduction. Both are optional. The title defaults to your board name.
- Turn it on and save. Tick "Make this roadmap public" and save. Inferno gives you a link that you can copy and share. Nothing is public until you do this.
- Label your tasks. Add the label to each task you want on the roadmap. Open the link to check how it looks.
What visitors see
| Visitors see | Visitors never see |
|---|---|
| Task titles | Descriptions and subtasks |
| The column each task is in | Assignees, team members, and names |
| A vote count | Due dates and task codes |
| Labels you choose to show | Comments, messages, and your other tasks |
Deleted tasks, and tasks in a deleted project or board, are never shown.
Votes and ideas
- Voting. Visitors can vote once per task and take the vote back. Votes are anonymous, so they show interest but are not a poll, and they can be gamed. The page says so. You can switch voting off.
- Ideas. If you allow ideas, visitors get a short form. Each idea becomes a task in the column you choose, with the label
community-feedback. If your board has Discord notifications on for new tasks, one message is posted per idea. Ideas are not shown on the roadmap unless they match your label rule. - Limits. Each visitor can hold up to 30 votes on a roadmap, and each network address is limited on votes and ideas. This keeps a board from being flooded.
Keeping it safe
- Anyone with the link can see it. The link is long and random, but it is not a password. Share it only where you are happy for it to be seen.
- Make a new link any time. The old link stops working at once and your votes are kept.
- Switch it off any time. Untick "Make this roadmap public" and the page disappears.
- Titles are public. Check task titles before you add the label, since players will read them.
- The page loads no analytics or ads. It is a plain page from Inferno that does not set tracking cookies.
- Ideas are untrusted text. Anyone with the link can write anything. Inferno strips HTML and never treats the text as instructions. If you connect an AI agent to your board, remind it that task text is data.
If something does not work
- The page says the roadmap does not exist. It is switched off, or the link was replaced. Check Settings, Public roadmap.
- The page is empty. No tasks match yet. Check the ticked columns, and that your tasks have the label you chose.
- Voting says you voted a lot. A visitor reached a limit. Wait a while and try again.
- You do not see the setting. Only owners and editors can manage the public roadmap.
