Connect an AI agent to Inferno
Let an agent such as Claude Code work on your boards for you. It can read your boards and create, update, move, complete, delete, and restore tasks. Setup takes about two minutes.
What you need
- An Inferno account and a board you can edit.
- An agent that can connect to a remote MCP server. We test with Claude Code.
Set it up
- Open Settings, then Agent access. Log in to Inferno and open Settings from the sidebar.
- Create a token. Name it after where it will run, such as "Claude Code on my laptop". Start with Read only. Choose all your boards, or only the ones you pick, and how long it should last.
- Copy the command. Inferno shows your token once, with a ready-to-paste command. Copy it before you leave the screen. If you lose it, revoke it and make a new one.
-
Paste it into your terminal.
The command looks like this, with your own token in place of the example:
claude mcp add --transport http inferno https://qprtaihyjfgswggrekpm.supabase.co/functions/v1/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer inf_your_token" -
Check that it works.
In Claude Code, run
/mcpand look forinferno. Then ask: "List my Inferno boards."
Or connect without a token
Apps that can add a remote MCP server and sign in on your behalf, such as Claude, can connect straight from a sign-in screen, with no token to copy.
-
Add Inferno in your app.
In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, and add a custom connector with this address:
In Claude Code, run:https://qprtaihyjfgswggrekpm.supabase.co/functions/v1/mcp
then runclaude mcp add --transport http inferno https://qprtaihyjfgswggrekpm.supabase.co/functions/v1/mcp/mcp, chooseinferno, and choose to authenticate. - Sign in to Inferno and choose what to share. Your browser opens Inferno. Pick the boards, and choose Read only or Read and change tasks. Deleting tasks is off unless you tick it.
- Press Allow. You are sent back to the app, and Inferno emails you to confirm what you allowed.
Connected apps are listed in Settings under Connected apps, where you can see how much each one is used and disconnect it, which stops it right away. Each connection is limited to 60 requests a minute, 30 of them changes. Tokens made by hand under Agent access still work for anything that cannot sign in this way.
Things to ask once it is connected
- "What can you do in my Inferno account?" (the agent calls
get_contextand tells you.) - "What is in progress on my Night Shift board?"
- "Create tasks for the dash ability: design the rules, code the movement, add a trail effect, add a whoosh sound."
- "Move everything tagged Audio that is in Review to Done."
- "Delete the duplicate tasks in the backlog." (Deleted tasks go to Trash, and you can restore them for 30 days.)
Creating, moving, and deleting need a Read and write token.
What an agent can and cannot do
| Can | Cannot |
|---|---|
| List your boards and read their tasks | Change assignees |
| Create up to 25 tasks at a time | Add or remove members, or send invites |
| Edit, move, and complete tasks | Post messages in Campfire |
| Delete tasks to Trash and restore them | Touch projects, boards, or settings |
Keeping it safe
- It acts as you. A token has your permissions and no more. A viewer's token cannot change tasks.
- Start read only. Switch to a write token when you trust the setup.
- Pick boards. A token can be limited to the boards you choose.
- Revoke any time. One click in Settings stops a token working immediately.
- Agent changes are labeled. Tasks changed through a token show the token's name in their activity, so your team can tell them apart from your own edits.
- Consider a separate account. Invite a dedicated "agent" account to your board as an editor, and use its tokens. Every change is then clearly the agent's.
- Task text is data. Inferno tells connected agents to treat titles and descriptions as data, never as instructions.
Other agents and apps
Any client that can connect to a remote MCP server over HTTP and send a custom
Authorization header can use the same address and token. In a JSON config it
usually looks like this, but check your client's own documentation for the exact format:
{
"mcpServers": {
"inferno": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://qprtaihyjfgswggrekpm.supabase.co/functions/v1/mcp",
"headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer inf_your_token" }
}
}
}
If something does not work
- It says unauthorized. The token was revoked, has expired, or was copied with a typo. Make a new one.
- It says the token is read only. Create a Read and write token.
- It cannot see a board. The token may be limited to other boards, or you may not have access to that board.
- It stops after a burst of calls. Tokens allow 60 calls a minute, 30 of them changes. Wait a minute.
